Pursuing his dreams without hesitation, Rendabel Radian launched his startup, LivSync. He explained, “LivSync was founded in September 2023 after participating in a Columbia University startup competition, inspired by the need for students to find compatible, well-synced roommates.”
Rendabel added, “There’s no need to stress about roommates because panicking doesn’t change a thing.” LivSync gathers data from Apple Health, Spotify, and user phone data to create personalized roommate matches. This platform is especially helpful for introverted roommates, making shared living more comfortable and enjoyable.
A Supportive Five: Guiding Each Other, Every Star in Place
Rendabel founded LivSync with a dedicated team of five, each specializing in engineering, finance, marketing, and product development. Together, they collaborate closely, supporting one another as they strategize and refine their work to create a more visually appealing and user-friendly website.
The team continuously tests and improves the platform, incorporating user feedback to enhance the customer experience. Through an iterative design process, they focus on customer-centric engineering, aiming to release a website that resonates with users and meets their needs effectively.
A Vision Beyond: Finding Purpose and Peace in the Journey
When asked about his long-term goals, Rendabel shared, “Our vision is to keep iterating on our product and launch it successfully. We conduct customer interviews with close contacts and leverage customer discovery when speaking with friends, aiming to truly understand and minimize the pain points our users face.
From Green Roots to Startup Goals: The Spark Behind the Vision
When asked about his journey from studying environmental science to founding a startup, Rendabel shared, “Choosing my major was a bit challenging. I was hesitant to dive into fields like coding, so I initially pursued sociology. However, in my senior year, I joined a startup team and discovered my passion for entrepreneurship. I also learned R programming, which turned out to be a valuable skill.”
Reflecting on the experience, he added, “Starting young means even the worst setbacks can become great learning experience and they look fantastic on a resume.“

When asked about networking and how it has helped him, Rendabel shared, “I receive emails about events from Columbia, and I also connect with people through LinkedIn. I’ve been able to maximize my network by engaging with the Columbia alumni community, which has opened up many opportunities. LinkedIn has been a great tool for discovering startup competitions and expanding my connections.”

The job market is incredibly tough right now, but the last thing you should do is stop taking action. Rendabel believes that building a startup is one of the best options, especially for those struggling to find work experience. He is passionate about LivSync, and he feels that for job seekers unable to secure a job, starting a business is a great alternative. It allows you to work on an idea you’re passionate about, build persistence, and learn how to bring that idea to life. When the job market improves, you’ll have the option to either continue running your startup or join tech teams at established companies.

To connect with industry professionals and researchers, start by doing cold outreach through email and LinkedIn. Reach out for help, advice, and inquire about their personal stories on how they became founders or researchers.
After participating in hackathons, ask for feedback, take notes, and use them to improve. Learn from their experiences and later ask for additional guidance to grow in your own journey. This proactive approach will help you build meaningful connections, gain valuable insights, and continuously improve your skills.
